Question about forming an LLC - am I in trouble? :(?

LLC's are filed with the Secretary of State. Filing with the State first is generally the way most individuals go because if there is a rejection with the name, the tax ID obtained will not be valid. Going the IRS route first is like putting the cart before the horse. So, usually it is state first, then IRS. The feds can be a bit intimidating, but they have more important things to worry about than someone filing a tax ID number before their state filing.
