Were your braxton hicks painfull? ?

Im 30 weeks and have been experiencing braxton hicks (confirmed by dr. that's all they are) but mine have been quite pain full, ive read a few places they aren't really pain full just feels like your doing a sit up. Also when did you start experiencing them? Thanks. =]
