What are some kinds of fish that are small and don't need such a large tank?

There are no fish that can be kept in a one gallon tank. A betta needs 5 gallons minimum and all other fish will need 10 gallons or more. Your best bet is go out and get a 10 gallon (they're cheap) then you can get guppies, ember tetras, or some other kind of small fish.
